Quotation: “Amongst the Marquis of Bute’s guests at the rent audit dinner at Cardiff on Saturday was Mr John Williams, of Llandough Farm … He succeeded his father in the tenancy of the farm in 1855 … Saturday was his 102nd rent audit.”
Note on the farm (inference): The report says “Llandough Farm”, not Great House Farm. The Rees family held the separate Llandough Farm from 1841 to 1910 (EV-0228), while directories place John Williams at Great House farm from 1868 to 1901 (EV-0225). So this John Williams is probably the Great House John Williams, named loosely by the paper. That match is an inference, not stated in the report.
Cuts against: The paper names “Llandough Farm”. Weekly Mail, 28 Nov 1903, has “son of Mr. William Williams, of Llandough Farm” (article), which is unexplained and may be a different Williams family.
Proves: A Bute estate tenant named John Williams, called “of Llandough Farm”, was reported in 1904 as having succeeded his father in the tenancy of his farm in 1855.
Does not prove: On its own, which farm; nor any title or rights beyond a tenancy.
