Daniel Thomas and Alfred Thomas (Daniel Thomas & Son) are associated with limestone quarrying at Llandough. People’s Collection Wales records that Daniel began the Llandough limeworks in 1851 and that Alfred continued them. Separately, Mary (Nancy) Williams’s statement identifies Daniel as the buyer of the Great House Farm house parcel from the Bute Estate in 1877 and describes a tenancy under which the freehold was to pass to her grandfather when quarrying ceased. The underlying 1877 instrument/plan has not been located, so the legal character and extent of that transaction remain unresolved. Mary’s account names Alfred as the recipient of the last rent in 1928; the original receipt has not been identified.

Parcel AThe Thomas land is the root of the family’s claim to Parcel A.
Independent context, not title proof: People’s Collection Wales’ Alfred Thomas entry says Daniel Thomas started the limeworks at Llandough in 1851 and that Alfred continued them. This supports the Thomas family’s connection to the Llandough works; it does not establish ownership or boundaries for the separate, uninspected “33 acres” D153 lead. It is also a separate line from William Evans Williams of Pwll-y-Pant, Caerphilly (identity distinction).

1876 — limeworks on part of the farm (Llandough Limeworks)
1877 — Mary (Nancy) Williams’s statement reports that Daniel Thomas bought the farmhouse/buildings and about 10 acres from Bute and let them to her grandfather; the original instrument and plan have not been located, and sale versus quarrying arrangement remains to be tested (details)

1928 — Mary (Nancy) Williams’s account reports the removal of quarry machinery and a final rent of about £4 paid to Alfred Thomas; the original receipt and precise land description have not been located (details)
1950 – 1952 — the family’s copy of the Thomas agreement taken from the farmhouse (details)
1984 — a copy of the Bute–Thomas deed and its index card reported missing from Cardiff Library, the year BP served its writ (details)
