Great House Farm (Tŷ Mawr)#

‹ Great House Farm › ‹ Great House › ‹ Tŷ… … read more

‹Great House Farm›‹Great House›‹Tŷ Mawr› was a historic farm at ‹Llandough-juxta-Penarth›‹Llandough near Penarth›‹Llandough near Cardiff›, in the Vale of Glamorgan, beside the parish church of St Dochdwy’s. The Wiki treats the names as historical nomenclature: a change of wording does not, by itself, establish a change of identity, title or legal extent.

Identity#

The principal identity questions are… … read more

The principal identity questions are deliberately separated: the building/farmhouse; the eastern and western land parcels; the historical farm or tenancy description; later registered titles; and the development site. Where a source uses a different name or description, the source wording is retained rather than silently normalised.

The place is associated in the records with Llandough-juxta-Penarth, Llandough near Penarth and other geographical formulations. These are nomenclature variants to be tested against the underlying source, not interchangeable legal descriptions.

IDENTITY CONTROL — TWO LLANDOUGH FARMS. The Great House Farm documented on this page is Great House Farm / Tŷ Mawr at Llandough-juxta-Penarth, beside St Dochdwy’s Church. Llandough Farm (opposite hospital) is a separate farmstead in the same Llandough near Penarth/Cardiff locality. It is not a former name, alias, subdivision, parcel, building, tenancy or nomenclature variant of Great House Farm. Likewise, the Museum’s wording “Llandough Church Farm” is retained as a source-specific term from the 1858 provenance and is not treated here as an established synonym for Great House Farm. No source may be reassigned from one farm to the other merely because both use “Llandough”.

Location control — 1924 Llandough sale particulars

The Museum Wales catalogue entry MS 3360/3 describes a 1924 sale of nine farms and records the place as “Llandough, Llanfair (Glamorgan)”. Under this wiki’s scope, the Llandough/Cowbridge material is excluded and must not be conflated with Llandough-juxta-Penarth or used as evidence about Great House Farm. The exclusion and its effect on the 1924 drain-agreement research are recorded at GHF-E119.

The two-parcel question#

The project keeps the farmhouse/house parcel and the eastern land parcel distinct until a primary document proves otherwise. References such as “the farm”, “whole farm”, “both tenancies”, “Great House Farm” or a combined registered title are therefore treated as source terminology requiring context.

The chronology is controlled through the Master Timeline. Material events should lead to their evidence record, and evidence should lead to its dedicated catalogue page. Where a historical description conflicts with another record, the conflict is preserved and tested rather than resolved by assumption.

A nomenclature variant is not itself evidence of ownership, fraud, concealment, amalgamation or legal identity. Each material proposition must be tied to the relevant primary evidence and tested against counter-evidence. See the Evidence-to-Court Matrix and Counter-Evidence & Disconfirmation.
